If you see these signs on your roof, maybe its time to get it replaced!
- MISSING SHINGLES: can cause leaks which leads to decking replaced and if severe enough, can cause mold in hidden places!
- BRITTLE OR CURLED UP SHINGLES: Is an example that there is possibly poor ventilation in the attic causing heat to build up and deteriorate the shingles, this is especially true if the shingles are still under warranty!
- DISCOLORATION: Staining of the shingles usually looks black or dark gray, caused by algae and will not harm your roof just may need proper cleaning!
- DETERIORATING SHINGLES: Will have a shinny look to them caused by the breakdown of the layers in the shingle, you actually see the fiberglass layer!
- HOW OLD IS YOUR ROOF? Most shingles last between 10 and 30 years depending on the type of shingle you have!
How a 3 tab shingle is made: Three-tab shingles are the roofing industry’s standard, consisting of two layers of asphalt around a Fiberglas® mat core covered with ceramic mineral granules, notched into three integrated pieces, or tabs.
How a laminated shingle is made: Laminated shingles are created by bonding two asphalt shingles together, giving them a distinct three-dimensional appearance. Laminates are generally heavier in weight, and allow for greater design flexibility.
